So, I've heard worst excuses to make a list. Here's my favorite Skinny Puppy songs, twenty five this time (ten just doesn't seem to cut it).

25. Inquisition [Last Rights]
Kick-ass drumming in the intro.
24. Mirror Saw [Last Rights]
Weird little gem that's easily overlooked.
23. Smothered Hope [Remission]
Dated sure, but still awesome live.
22. Assimilate [Bites]
After 25 years the verses in this are still damn catchy.
21. Rash Reflection [Too Dark Park]
The bizarre drum beat almost makes it sound like it's going too fast
20. T.F.W.O. [Too Dark Park]
Possibly their best use of electric guitar, it's almost a percussion instrument.
19. Tin Omen [Rabies]
DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN DUN
18. Morpheus Laughing [Too Dark Park]
Sinister as hell.
17. Harsh Stone White [VIVIsectVI]
"Hey guys how about we use a jackhammer instead of the snare?"
16. Goneja [The Greater Wrong Of The Right]
Really an A+ example of how the newer sound can work.
15. Deep Down Trauma Hounds [Cleanse Fold Manipulate]
It's all really good; drums, synth, vocals, lyrics.
14. daL [MythMaker]
Totally unlike Skinny Puppy but pretty amazing.
13. One Time One Place [Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse]
Screamy, mellow, spacey, all the good stuff.
12. jaHer [MythMaker]
Unnnnwwwiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnndd.
11. Grave Wisdom [Too Dark Park]
Frankly intimidating.
10. Tormentor [Too Dark Park]
The first verse in this always makes me want to listen to all of TDP.
9. VX Gas Attack [VIVIsectVI]
The build-up in the middle is one of their best moments.
8. Amnesia [The Process]
Feels kinda clean and has a different vocal style, but it's beginning-to-end awesome.
7. Rivers [Rabies]
Their best instrumental/movie sample song, for those who thought Kubrick films needed more Dracula.
6. Spasmolytic [Too Dark Park]
Really weird but grounded enough to be catchy as hell.
5. Nature's Revenge [Too Dark Park]
Basically a soundtrack to massive unease, then it leads into...
4. Shore Lined Poison [Too Dark Park]
... the soundtrack for mass genocide and disaster.
3. Testure [VIVIsectVI]
Incredible lyrical style, beat shifts, and lacking in any moment less than great.
2. Love In Vein [Last Rights]
Incredibly abrasive and booming, builds slowly into a monster.
1. Worlock [Rabies]
Just brilliant. Haunting. Intense.
I could go on my usual 'Skinny Puppy haven't been good for almost 20 years' spiel, but instead I'm taking the high road will say that Morpheus Laughing should be higher.
ReplyDeleteThat pic's heaps scary.
